Until now I did send error messages by using formatted JSON response:

{"error":{"code":123,"message":"Insert a coin"}}

How to pass an error message to the can.Model?

Your server should return the appropriate HTTP status code for the error handler to be called (404, 400, etc). If it returns a 200 then the success handler will be called.

The third parameter to a findAll or findOne call is the error handler.
